Annapolis, Maryland based artist, Wendy Mays, has been a creative for as long as she can remember. Artistic talent runs in her family line so getting an early start in painting was as natural as breathing. But having the time to paint hasn’t always been easy. Much of her adult life revolved around raising her two sons, teaching high school art, then running a bed and breakfast alongside starting her own art agency for illustrators. Her sons are now grown and raising families of their own. She retired from the B&B and sold the agency, so the time to concentrate on her painting and illustration is now. Wendy’s concentration is on realistic still life oil paintings of the common, often overlooked, everyday things. Her work reflects of a love of beauty, decorating, gardening, cooking and quilting. She creates vignettes infused with light to photograph as sources for her inspiration. Working with these references she creates her painting in either oil or watercolor.
An MFA graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design with a concentration in Illustration led to a very fulfilling career in a children’s book illustration business. As a side hustle, Wendy has been painting furniture for years. She is currently selling her furniture at a gallery in Annapolis.
