Itty Bitty Arty Party

My art is an ode to femininity, colour and uprooting the ordinary. I reimagine and twist conceptions of people and everyday life. The body is a key theme in my illustrations. In each piece I distort the body in a particular way, often altering elements or discarding parts like ears, fingers or necks. The body is such contentious topic. As a society, we fixate on bodies: on the ideal body, on the unsatisfactory body; the too thin, too fat body. I wanted to rescript these ideas about the body through the act of deconstruction. My use of colour in this series critiques the seriousness that is portrayed as ideal by our work-centred society. Instead, the use of colour aims to add childlike felicity and playfulness to the ordinary - it’s a reminder to prioritise these feelings in our lives. Femininity and sexuality flow easily through my pieces in the same manner that they flow through my life. As a queer woman, these touch every facet of my existence. Thus, I desire for them to influence every aspect of my art. All in all, my art aims to bring you joy, make you ask questions, and help you embrace your identity.
