I have always loved the space program of the 1960s. These are accurate drawings of the single seat Mercury spacecraft that took Americans aloft from 1961 to 1963. They were fantastically small and amazingly complex machines. The pilot sat in a womb-like capsule surrounded by everything he might need for a day in space.
I sketched directly from two spacecraft at the Air and Space museum, and the original spacesuits.

My technique is an unusual combination of permanent pigments and repeated soakings in water. The entire drawing is completely immersed several times during the production process. Each drawing is then worked in both its wet and dry states.
