The Contemporary Hippie

My name is Anna Small, and I am a textile artist. I graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, with my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in textiles. I am a young, eco-friendly woman whose fashion creates a statement. I have always loved shibori dyeing fabric and utilizing printmaking techniques to further enhance my work. My love of fabric dyeing and also my own free-spirited lifestyle inspired me to start the company The Contemporary Hippie in 2020 to pursue my dream career selling home accessories and garments. My modern hippie aesthetic is reflected in my art as i recycle and reuse fabrics to create contemporary, eccentric designs. Some of my dye work is natural, and some items are thrifted and up-cycled. My designs are geared towards the young and the young-at-heart.

My work has a contemporary feel and represents a fashion sense and a fresh look that feels modern and credible. A lot of my work is inspired by biodiversity and culture through different shibori techniques, surface design, and screen printing. i focus on creating bold, colorful soft goods to showcase my wildlife obsessions, my color theory, and my knowledge of art history. Keeping up with fashion trends with my own quirky twists, designs, and patterns. Art is culture, culture is art.

Here is to the people who are young, the young at heart, wild, and wanting to be free! Wanting to express themselves through fashion and home accessories. My art aesthetic is outfitted to promote social change through textiles for my modern hippies out there. Just be yourself!
