Christopher Algernon Gonzalez is a South Florida firefighter/painter who favors the abstract and the unusual. He was born in Belize City and grew up in Miami where he currently resides. Although not from a family of artists, he was drawn to painting as it gave him freedom to express himself without rules and provided a medium in which he could use color and go against the grain while combining elements that do not traditionally go together. He was influenced by the work of Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Jules Olitski and his inspiration comes from the city’s diverse culture. His art is characterized by bold colors, contrasting shapes and uncommon mediums. Christopher employs a combination of drip art, color field and action painting. He begins each new piece with only a wisp of an idea, not quite knowing what the final product will be, only that it will be an expression of his feelings. He wishes to touch others with his paintings and hopes others will see the world through his eyes. As for how he chooses a name, he says, he just knows.
