The art Alexander Inashvili (1941-2008) produced over the span of almost 40 years vividly expresses and reflects the breadth of his life experiences and influences between eastern Europe and United States. Born in Grozny in September of 1941 as his parents were fleeing from Ukraine to Kazachstan, just as world war II reached the Soviet Union, Alexander grew up surrounded by hard realities of post-war era in former USSR, while being inspired and influenced by great works of art, literature, theater, film, and rich Georgian culture, as well as cultures from around the world. Growing up in Tbilisi, Georgia, Alexander finished the city's Polytechnic Institue, and worked as an electronics engineer in multiple fields throughout his career. But he has been interested in art since youth, and began producing artworks since early 1970's, self-taught from books, with no formal art education. Deep dedication to his craft helped him achieved level of mastery high enough to be accepted into the national Union of Artists.
Highly diverse in themes, styles and techniques, he produced artworks in wide variety of mediums like watercolor, pencils, gouache, oil, charcoal, sanguine, pastels, metal etching, metal repoussé/chasing and mixed media. Alexander's work has been exhibited in galleries in both Europe and the US, with large portion of his art sold and given away.
