The idea for “My Life in Skirts” blossomed in the spring of 2010 when I was challenged to paint a narrative. After finding a fantastically drama-filled diary I wrote during my adolescent years, I was inspired by the realization that I had spent most of my academic and professional life in a skirt…and so my narrative came to be.

“My Life in Skirts” not only captures my Irish-Catholic upbringing, which included those familiar plaid uniforms of parochial school, but also my Southern California childhood followed by my adult life in Northern California. The various jobs I’ve held and my many travels in between are also reflected in the paintings.

After reading the diary and going through boxes of old photographs, flashes of memories became the foundation for the vignettes of the skirts.

Working with oil and acrylic paints, my paintings reflect a page and the pages together weave a story and glimpse into my personal narrative. Most recently I have begun creating digital images for Eco-friendly greeting cards. These new vignettes are fun lively stories of my current life in San Francisco.
