Amaranta De Francisci

Amaranta De Francisci is a painter and an illustrator. She was born in Verona, which she left at the age of twenty, to return after twelve years during which she had two important experiences: she had two sons and lived by the sea in two southern cities that certainly influenced her artistic activity, an activity which for many years unveiled only humoristic and caricature drawings in black and white.

“At some point,” she says, “the color came to visit me, suddenly” and then it’s probably the color and the use of it, to give Amaranta De Francisci the consensus and recognition that have made her a much loved and appreciated painter. Yes, because Amaranta draws, draws lines, giving form to objects, houses, landscapes, animals, but everything seems to be functional to the color and not the contrary. The forms are a starting point and an excuse to paint.

Yet Amaranta is best known for her cities, her colourful, unlikely, very personal cities.

Besides being a painter Amaranta De Francisci is also a popular illustrator: she has illustrated children’s books and she often dedicates herself to editorial work such as book covers, posters, greeting cards and calendars. She has had numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and has for many years organized painting classes for adults and children.
