Amy Mills

Born in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand and raised in New Zealand, I have a great appreciation for expansive rural landscapes, which have come to represent life experiences and lessons to me. This has inspired my art; where landscapes became stylised to their purist forms; rendered with highly textured, broken strokes in bright/neutral colour schemes symbolising an emotion, a journey, an experience and an idea. Further experimentation, juxtaposing clean smoothly rendered objects with texture and space, coupled with studies in design and architecture has brought out more direct messages and storytelling in my works. This is most apparent in my current series ‘Sacrosanct’ where my passion for art, wine and awareness of life’s ambiguity combine.

I have been painting and experimenting with artworks all my life and am self-taught, although I studied design and architecture. I began exhibiting in 2010; my first exhibit was a success with two sales on opening night. I have exhibited in numerous group shows and have had several solo shows, my work is also currently on display in New Zealand. My works have been purchased for private and corporate collections and I have undertaken artwork commissions. My art has also received positive press in New Zealand and has been featured in blogs/email newsletters. I currently work out of my studio at home where I create works to exhibit in Melbourne galleries and shows and work on commissioned pieces.

I also create handmade jewelry, home wares and other Objets D'Art, using prints of my artworks or along the theme of my artworks. I have sold these in an art market that I organised (in future I'm just going to have a stall, not organise a whole market!), online and they are also available in retail stores around Melbourne, as well as a few stores and markets in New Zealand.
