South African Greek painter, Liza Collaros has had a paintbrush in her hand since childhood. Art called to her from a very young age, hether it was painting, drawing, or crafting. The creative impulse sang out to her and she has been following its song ever since. Liza’s first teacher was her father, a painter who could turn dust to gold with the right set of paints and a willing canvas. He instilled a lifelong love of the medium and an inherited devotion that she carries with her to this very day. Her inspiration then began to find root with several traditionalists and fundamentalists, namely Picasso, Matisse, and Frida Kahlo, and more recently she resonates with the works of Harold Voight, Amanda Feund, and Kim Black. Liza’s own work has caught the eye of several high-profile private buyers in South Africa and the United States, graced the pages of the award-winning children’s book ‘Can Can Kidz’ by Wynn Cohen, as well as a featured nude collection for the British Television series ‘Geordie Shore’. Her preferred mediums are acrylic paints with a specialization in landscapes, florals, still life, and abstract portraits. However, to Liza art is a journey of learning that will never come to an end, and with that spirit she seeks out techniques and challenges that fuel her soul and imagination. Whether she is experimenting with textures, impasto, colors, or seeking out a new unknown, Liza constantly searches for new avenues of expression and creation. In addition to her personal artistic endeavors, Liza teaches art to children. Her studio currently consists of children, aged 5-12 years old. She utilizes a combination of her love for art and her degree in psychology to embolden the innate freedom and enlightenment born of creative work by those of all ages. The studio is a welcoming environment that encourages inspiration for all who enter. When not painting Liza can be found sitting amongst the beauty of her island, spending time with her family, creating magic in the kitchen, imbibing new wines, and appreciating the intricate wonders of life.
