Assata's Magic

I am Assata, I’m a black queer black femme artist and grassroots activist that believes in empowering marginalized voices through art and organizing. I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. My parents and grandparents are activists and artists so I was always encouraged to follow my dreams no matter how impossible or radical they seemed. My family always says I learned how to draw before I learned how to talk. I have been honing and developing both my artistic voice and organizing skills since my sophomore year of high school. I am currently in college studying to become a successful animator that will use my platform to better my community.

My ultimate dream is to become a successful animation director who creates diverse stories from a black queer activist lens. Right now I am doing this by honing my craft, studying, and encouraging my imagination. I love visual art and storytelling because I am able to transport myself to other magical worlds, and dream of the world I hope to one day see. I will always create art that speaks to my soul and never limit my goals/aspirations. I hope to inspire people with my animations and create art that leads to our collective liberation.
