Austyn is an artist and photographer currently residing in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BFA in Sculpture and was the recipient of the J.R. Hopes Scholarship for sculpture for two consecutive years. During school she focused on making wearable sculptures and using self-portrait photography to create different personas. (The sculptures can be seen here: https://www.austynvictoria.com/sculpture)
After college she decided to travel to compete in the sport of Flowboarding. Travel did not allow the long periods of time collecting and assembling materials to make her wearable sculptures, so she shifted to a type of wearable art she could design on the go. From this came the first clothing line for female flowboarders called flowlove.
She also picked up watercolor painting while abroad and came up with the concept of "Lifelines," a painting series that takes a single line from an experience (for example the route taken on a road trip, a silhouetted mountain range, a vein from someone's palm) and grows, representing memory of the past and potential of the future. This painting process is about reacting to the material, using gravity and water to create a flow, and meditating on the experience that inspired it.
The "Leaflines" series follows a similar idea, that most things in life can be simplified down to a single line, and combines the act of collecting materials and responding to them, much like her sculpture process.
