Her artwork is about experience and the relationship between people. She uses portraits give form to emotional experiences. Her subjects are frequently depicted in solitary, social and spiritual situations. Jessica Russo Scherr explains how art is a tool to help us understand culture and ourselves within that culture. By using her artwork series of closed eyes, Jessica addresses how artists create works to process the world around them and how artistic forms of expression create a space for dialogue. By sharing artwork we can stimulate ideas which can create understanding and develop into action. The closed eyes series seeks to understand the balance we must create in our lives between the 24-hour new cycle and self-preservation.
