Creating art has been my passion since I was a child. I've always loved working spontaneously, allowing my art to flow through me onto the page or canvas without much conscious thought. I call this “intuitive art”, and it is like being on a creative treasure hunt, never knowing what I'll find until it shows up on the page.
Often I'll get other information along with the flow of colors, shapes and contours. Words and stories will urge me on, telling me more about what I'm creating. It's such a fun process, discovering hidden secrets as they emerge in colorful strokes and sinuous shapes! This is my favorite form of art because it has a deeper meaning, and it is an expression that comes from somewhere beyond myself.
As a warm-up for my intuitive art, I also do more realistic studies and traditional pieces that are more conventional. I'm inspired by nature, and I especially love drawing flowers. Their curvaceous lines and shadows invoke the sensuous shapes found in the human form.
I especially enjoy working in a large format. Since movement of line and color is such an integral part of my art, working large allows me to move freely, almost like dancing. Working on smaller pieces is more restricting—the drawing surface is more confined, limiting motion and putting more focus on small details.
I love using layers of rich colors, especially when working with chalk pastels. I blend the colorful strokes with my fingers to create an underlying sense of movement and depth.
My artistic expression is a deeply inspired, spiritual process. I believe it is a blessing to be able to create beauty and images that resonate with the viewer. I am grateful for the gift of artistic creativity and feel this comes from a divine energy that moves through me. I love to share it with my audience.
I live in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.
