Carol Mendel Maps and Tiles

I have loved pictorial maps ever since I was a child. In 1976 I published an illustrated map of San Diego, a folded paper map that was sold at gift shops, museums, convenience stores, and visitor attractions.

I later expanded to other areas, mostly in California, but also in other states. The advent of GPS ended the heyday of folded paper maps, but pictorial maps are still popular on a wide variety of products because they are colorful, decorative, and informative.

My interest in tiles was sparked by the tiles I saw in downtown Santa Barbara.
