Cheryl Ball Art

My name is Cheryl Ball and I have been been painting and selling my landscape art for over 10 years. My choice of landscape is determined by the mood of the scene. I am drawn to dramatic skies, and living in Northern Ireland, there is never a shortage of these. This northern region of the 'Emerald Isle' has the unfortunate reputation of being wet and miserable, which is true to an extent, but when it's not raining, we are fortunate to witness beautiful skyscapes, coupled with lush green countryside vistas, which have been the inspiration for my most recent projects.

I love to be out in nature, and on our many walks, my husband and I will take countless photographs along the way with the aim of using at least one as a potential painting. I discount many of these images as they fail to meet my own criteria, such as - is this interesting to look at? Would I display it in my home? Does it make me feel happy? Can I imagine myself there i.e. lose myself in the picture. For this reason I try to accurately reflect the picture as close to life as possible to give the sense of actually being there. My chosen media is pastel. I love the control I have when using them, and the vibrancy of the colours.

Born and raised in the South West of England, I now live in a picturesque coastal village along the Ards Peninsular in Northern Ireland. From an early age I spent many an hour in my room drawing to pass the time, and at secondary school gained an Art and Design qualification. During my teenage years and early 20's my art was put on the back burner, and it has only been within the last 10 years that I have taken a more serious approach to creating and selling my work.
