Elaine Chew (born January 10, 1993), Malaysian born raised in Brunei, Borneo, is a graphic designer based in Shanghai, China. Graduated with a Bachelors’ of Arts from Northumbria university, Newcastle upon Tyne, England; she majored in Graphic Design with a focus in imagemaking- illustration, motion graphics, and different printing methods. During her spare time, she enjoys singing while playing with her ukulele, cycling around the city looking for coffee and inspiration.
Her most recent publication is “Shanghai Love Notes”, an editorial poetry collection book in collaboration with poet and writer, Gabby Gabriel, to be released in Spring 2020. In 2019, she had released a children’s book project, Noah, with Muse, an American textile company to bring awareness on the importance of sleep for children and spending time with your loved ones.
Growing up in Borneo, facing racism and discrimination, her artwork hopes to bring more unity, respect and embracing differences. Her artworks’ focus on the reflection of the connection of self and the environment, how people are interconnected with one and the other. No one exists on their own. We thrive from the company we keep and our environment is the refection of our inner state of life.
