The artistic foundation of Chong'en is firmly grounded as he had received training in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore and he had a specialisation in western oil painting. In 2003, his works was recognised and awarded first prize for Representation Category at the 22nd UOB (United Overseas Bank) Painting of the Year. In 2002, Chong'en received Highly Recommended Painting Award at the 21st UOB Painting of the Year. In 2000, he received Delta Butcher Merit Award.
