Since moving to the UK in 2003 from the USA, I have been fascinated by English gardens, particularly tiny front gardens with lush flowers spilling over low stone or brick walls, peeking over neatly clipped hedges or climbing around brightly coloured front doors. The result of tender loving care, patience and attention to detail, these tiny gardens are the inspiration for the artwork I'm selling here. Based on photos I've taken around my local neighbourhood over the past 20 years, I've abstracted some of the complexity of the flowers in order to focus more on the shifts in colour and light, as well as the contour line.
