My art celebrates the beauty of nature and the freedom of the imagination. I have been making art for 20 years (although it feels like about 4 years to me). Originally I painted with oils and acrylic, and then moved into digital work. I use techniques from both. I've studied psychology, urban design, landscape architecture - but it is my art that is the focus of my life, and it is nature that is my favourite and central teacher, showing me beauty and composition, light and shadow.
I create my art with my original photographs, I cut-out the content and merge the photos together in Photoshop. I paint over the photos and blend them into a final image that has been "painted with photographs".
A major project is my illustrated book; The Bright Light of Dream Stars (made over 7 years - 2010-2017). The original images span over 25 metres in length. I wrote, illustrated, animated and sound-produced this interactive book. It took me so long as I was learning every step of the process, how to write well, how to make the interactive book, and produce the soundtrack and spoken word. The book of artworks is almost like a guided meditation, a resource to help uplift and relax the reader/viewer. You can find it for free - for awhile at least - on iBooks and (specially discounted) on Amazon - see the links at the end of this section.
Now that my book is completed, I am jumping into making new work and have been busy going through my thousands of photos from around Australia and a few trips overseas. I have been dreaming about and sketching new compositions. 2018 will be a year of exciting fresh work, exploring being human, meaning and our connections to nature - with light and fun along the way. I'm looking forward to sharing these new works with you.
