Apart from weekly painting sessions in an open-air studio in Mexico, I would have to classify myself as being self-taught. My adventure with paint and canvas began for the sole purpose of reproducing images I appreciated.
As a child my favourite toy was a giant box of Crayola crayons .... the colours captivated my imagination and I spent every free moment creating beautiful images on paper.
Years later when I retired and moved to Mexico, I discovered freedom and joy of painting. along the River Quale in Old Town, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I was inspired by a local artist, “Maestro” Clemente, whose creations were vibrant and joyful.... the inspiration and guidance I received from Clemente ended too soon .... as he passed on before I could absorb the fullness of his free style approach to the canvas. Sometimes I hear his voice over my shoulder saying, “suave, suave” reminding me to use my brush softly.
I have now returned to Canada and renewed my passion. My hope is to share my work to help bring a smile and release emotional reaction with my art.
Now, I would have to confess having a love affair with canvas and acrylic paints; brush strokes of colour applied to a canvas release such joy in my spirit. Exploration and discovery learning provide rich hours in my creative zone. My love of painting with acrylic on large canvas continues.
