Cecca Designs: Bright and beautiful art and patterns by Cecca Whetnall

Originally from London where she studied at Wimbledon School of Art in the early 90s, Cecca (short for Francesca, pronounced Checka) is now based in the beautiful seaside town of Bournemouth. A painter all of her life, after a short career in IT she made the move to full time artist in 2011 and spent two years working as a fine art printmaker. Since starting a family at the end of 2013 Cecca’s focus has switched from printmaking to digital pattern design, which allows her art to fit in around family life.

Cecca’s work has featured on the covers of Dorset Magazine and the book ‘Portrait Revolution’ by Julia L. Kay. She has exhibited work at Bankside gallery in London and at galleries in Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and East Sussex. Cecca is a member of Poole Printmakers, Bournemouth Arts Club and Dorset Visual Artists and has taught a number of printmaking workshops.

Young and happy at heart, Cecca’s art and patterns are bright, beautiful and illustrative. With influences including Edward Bawden, David Hockney and Picasso, her work reflects a love of colour and a subtle sense of fun.

Favourite themes include dinosaurs, robots, fresh florals and fun animals. Her favourite method of printmaking is linocut and her series of Dorset landscapes includes a number of Bournemouth views and an iconic view of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury.
