With study completed, Jayne has now returned to her much-loved art practice with much enthusiasm and passion.

Jayne produces drawings and paintings that reflect her imagination and desire to represent what she sees in a stylised and illustrative approach.

Jayne has a whimsical view of life, which is particularly obvious in her figurative studies. Jayne’s characters are moulded into quirky, peculiar beings that reflect real-life with that something extra Jayne can see. Her people are somewhat characterised and very illustrative and always tell a story.

The subject matter for her paintings and drawings are sourced from real life studies, her imagination and her memories. Jayne’s reveals the ‘essence’ of what she sees to the viewer. Realism is explored, enhanced and intertwined with expression, illustration and lyrical naivety.

“I like to express my feelings toward my subject in my work by giving it an extra boost of drama, to make the ordinary unordinary. I place a lot of effort into my initial composition and am emphatic about the chiaroscuro or light and dark of my work, both of which can increase the drama of something mundane or everyday”.

Education Jayne completed a Certificate in Fine Arts (TAFE, NSW 1984 – 89) and Digital Applications I and II through (TAFE, NSW 2002). She completed Adobe Illustrator and InDesign courses in (North London, 2012). Jayne also has a Bachelor of Communications degree (CSU 2013), a Diploma of Business Administration (TAFE, NSW 2006).

Exhibitions Jayne had exhibited her paintings and drawings throughout Western NSW prior to her study hiatus. She had sold work privately and by commission. Her work can be found in private collections in Australia, UK and Japan.

Influences Jayne’s work is influenced by what she sees every day in people and things around her and by her memories of living in the UK, Africa and Australia. Old photographs, children’s illustrations and others unusual yet naive works have a profound influence on Jayne’s work also. “I am lucky in that I have had the opportunity to visit many galleries all over the world and I love looking at (and am influenced by) the work of great masters like Bosch, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Rossetti, Klimt and Rousseau to name just a few and of course not forgetting Australian’s Nolan and Lindsay”.
