I am Gregory Maleme. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Art/ Visual Art program at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. As a student, I had the opportunity to travel and study at the University of Tasmania in the city of Hobart, Tasmania in Australia where I visited many beautiful places that I depicted in my artworks: The Eaglehawk Neck beach, Wellington Park, Carnarvon Bay, Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, Japanese Botanical Garden, Prison Cell of Port Arthur, Footsteps Towards Freedom, etc... I also traveled and stayed at the Memorial University of Harlow in England for a summer learning program and volunteering in the Gallery of Parndon Mills in Harlow. During my stay at Harlow, I visited beautiful landscapes such as Stonehenge which is for me like an open museum field with amazing structures and nature; the sculptures of Henry Moore in the small town of Much Hadham, Harlow Town Park, England, etc... A tour of Europe led me to Brussels in Belgium, and Paris in France where I visited the Tuileries Gardens...and was left with more fondly memories of landscape and structures that inspire my artistic work.
My art practice and concept involve creation, impressionism, and professionalism. I stay focused when I paint, working on my artwork helps me relax, it helps me create ideas and it helps me stay motivated. My art practice and concept provide opportunities for me to become a successful artist. Art brings me passion and joy; my art development helps me elevate my art skills. Inspired by the beauty of nature, painted in Contemporary Impressionism style with bold and vivid color, and intense short brush strokes, my paintings depict nature as the quintessence of beauty, and landscapes with architectural or sculptural structures as aesthetical elements of beauty added to nature. Elements that give a sense of belonging and identity, and make us feel at home, here or there. Elements that invite open a dialogue about the impact of human footprints on landscapes and culture of many people, history and art, identity, and sense of belonging. I paint my artworks as elements of beauty, culture, identity, heritage, interaction, and inspiration to elevate my passion for art; while I continue painting about nature and landscapes in the pursuit of a natural and quintessential beauty that relaxes the mind and boosts the mood and gives a feeling of well-being, a sense of belonging to the earth now. I always start my painting with an escape in nature and then evolve into a self-reflection that inspires me about composition, drawing, color, light and shades, impression, and expression. My paintings invite to exploration and a journey through real places where I have been, from the Evergreen Bricks Works Valley Park and Trails in Toronto where I live and love to escape to the beautiful gardens and landscapes that I visited elsewhere in the world, which all inspire my paintings, to share my dream of a beautiful and wonderful world.
My artworks on this website consist of digital oil painting using Photoshop but I also use oil painting with brush on canvas which are sold as original on my website. Some of my artworks have been in art gallery competitions as described on the art page and won an Honorably and Finalist Award at the Art Show International-Landscape 2020. I also participated and was a finalist winner at the Contemporary Art Gallery-Photography/Digital Printing-2020 Competition. I'm looking into having some online solo exhibitions and will keep you posted on my Facebook or Instagram accounts. Please follow me greg.maleme.01@facebook.com and gumaleme@instagram.com.
