BOLD & VIVID CONTEMPORARY ARTWORK

We are immersed in an infinite prism of colors so intricately laid out before us by nature. To express the spirit of our environment into a form of artwork, is my natural calling. I am Ishra, an artist based in New Jersey, USA. Often lost in a distant world, I found myself drawing and doodling all the time, since I was a child. This intrinsic trait led me to take up Architecture as my major in college, thinking that it would an obvious choice for my academia. However, throughout the years, I found myself feeling disoriented and unaligned with my true nature. Dominated by Physics and Mathematics, I felt that there was little room for creativity, in my studies. After college, having wasted enough time of chasing the wrong career, I retracted to my origin of creating art. The very state of my being came to life after I took up drawing and painting again. Life is never a straight line and after going though many bends and curves, I finally found bliss.

I draw inspiration from the nature world and the colors that associates with it. My paintings are often very expressive with bold tones and textures. I use thick paints with intentional brushstrokes to attain a level of originality and character. With watercolors, I play with its fluid and translucent aspects. Stark contrasts of light and shadow are what I try to deliver using charcoals and colored pencils, in my portrait drawings.
