Jesse Black is an abstract artist working out of Newport Beach. His inspiration comes from a lifetime of adventures out at sea. One sailing adventure in particular put Jesse in a three day storm off the coast of Baja. After being rescued by the Coast Guard he spent a year in Mexico trying to raise money to make repairs on his sailboat. Finding discarded wood planks, he created art that he then sold on the streets of Ensenada to the tourists.
Jesse's Art style could be described as a fusion of styles all blended together. You can see a heavy street art influence mixed with a fine art approach. A lot of times he will re-work a piece, painting it over and over until the final vision is complete. This often results in many layers and textures, and sometimes heavy warped canvases.
Currently Jesse works as a licensed captain in southern California. Staying inspired by life on the ocean and the adventures that come with it to fuel his creativity to tell stories through his art.
