Josi is a multi-media visual artist who studied Studio Art the University of Guelph in 2012. She decided to discontinue her studies in 2013, as she felt confident in her abilities without study. Josi uses her artwork as a way to heal from her mental health issues, trauma, grief, and addiction struggles. Her portraits fall under the categories of surrealism and expressionism (artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse within a person. The artist accomplishes this aim through distortion, exaggeration, primitivism, and fantasy and through the vivid, jarring, violent, or dynamic application of formal elements). Josi will continue to use her portraits to attain healing and peace throughout her lifetime. Her hope is that her artwork will help others struggling to find peace through identification among the subjects she depicts.
