Julie Belcher

Julie Belcher is an Appalachian artist, dedicated handmade advocate, and appreciator of that which can be made new and useful once more. She studied architecture and graphic design before helping to launch the hand-set letterpress revival over 2 decades ago, scavenging to purchase and restore presses long forgotten. Projects include the nationally noted illustration of American novelist Cormac McCarthy on the cover of the New York Times Review of Books and a series of large-scale monoprints for Whole Foods Cafe table tops that incorporate a signature art that begins with letterpress hand printed paper pieces stitched together and then layered with bits and pieces of her Appalachian Mountain heritage.
