Justin is an acrylic painter who creates abstract spaces with brilliant colors and heavily textured surfaces. His emotive brush and knife work form a visual simile and metaphor, revealing gestural patterns, figures, and objects among grids and geometric forms.
He refers to his work as abstract “landscapes”—not unlike the quiet chaos in our minds. Fascinated by psychology and cognitive processes, Justin’s work bridges internal and external, translating nonphysical states through color, shape, and texture.
Justin W John was born in 1981 in the Philippines and grew up a U.S. Navy ’brat’ on the east coast. He earned his BFA in graphic design in 2003 from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, MD. Justin relocated to Washington, D.C., where he worked in publishing and corporate design. He also held creative management roles in retail and interior design fields, which enriched his life, skillset, and artwork by the diverse experiences each brought. He currently lives and works in downtown Boise, Idaho. Running his art business from his studio.
