Lauren McCrea is an Arizona based graphic designer that grew up on a family farm in the Dakotas. That experience shaped her love of nature, tradition and culture. Picking June berries, spending summer evenings in the garden, and getting lost in the open night skies are childhood memories that Lauren draws inspiration from.
Some of her earliest memories include her grandmother teaching her how to sew a log cabin quilt from her grandfather's old shirts. Lauren says that those first magical moments of piecing together colorful strips of fabric left quite an impression upon her. That encounter was to become her “first-love” and the art of “making things” was to be her destiny.
Her early beginnings and training in graphic design go hand-in-hand when it comes to her passion to create. She draws or paints her motifs and then scans them into the computer, which she then manipulates. The pictorial structure of the grid continually plays a part in the organizing principles of her work. Currently Lauren divides her time between teaching at a local college and working on her own range of prints and products.
