Hey there, I'm Austen Mengler - an independent pop horror concept artist, illustrator, art director & exhibitor from Perth, Western Australia who loves drawing monsters! - www.austenmengler.com
I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and since 2010 I've been working professionally full time as a concept artist & illustrator on a variety of international freelance projects, creating traditional pencil & ink & digital Photoshop concept art, illustration, character & creature designs for films, video games, album covers, Kickstarter projects, comics, graphic novels & more. For my full resume check out my About section at my website: www.austenmengler.com/about
My most recent client & publishing works include designing the title creature design for the 2019 Australian Horror Film "The Faceless Man" by Chapter 5 Studios & working on the red carpet poster with my partner Jenny Mackintosh (www.jennymackintosh.net), zombie makeup special effects work on Pogo's "HorrorLand" music video, as well as having my painting “Escape” being included in the "Australia Burns" bushfire relief graphic novel.
Since 2013 I've also regularly exhibited at pop culture, collector & art events in Perth and all around Australia, including performing live demo workshops and talking on panels about my concept art process.
As well as freelance projects for clients, I've also been developing and releasing my own original horror art projects and collections, including:
POP HORROR: a warped horrific parody of my favourite pop culture characters.
EXECUTION - my scifi/fantasy/horror post apocalyptic world building comic IP project.
MY SHADOWS - a dark black and white art book collection of personal digital horror paintings.
SCARY SKETCHES - a look behind the scenes at my traditional pencil, ink and marker sketches and illustrations that go into each detailed digital Photoshop painting, as well as showcasing more rough and early concept art.
Other things that keep me busy are releasing new artwork on my Patreon (www.patreon.com/austenmengler) and social media channels, making videos & tutorials for my YouTube Channel, updating my Online Store, Etsy, Society6, Redbubble, INPRNT & Gumroad, and sharing more about my art creation process online.
If you have a business inquiry or question feel free to message or email me, and you can also check out my FAQ for more information.
Thanks for the ongoing support, whether it be in person at a show, through art mail orders at my Online Store: www.austenmengler.com/store
Cheers and play nice with my monsters!
