My distinctive personal style using batik, oil and stitch aims to convey texture and earthiness, layering mediums to try and capture the ordered chaos and random patterns in nature. I balance batik work, with traditional oil painting and textile work, often with one informing the other. Inspiration comes from the peaceful solitude that can be found in the barren Irish landscape, particulary Donegal and along the Atlantic coast. But also from walking the country lanes of rural Armagh where I grew up amid the rolling drumlins, ancient hedgerows, and derelict farms.
