Luis Borrero studied at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, in 1999. During his third year of study at the academy, Luis was honored with the Cresson Scholarship for European studies. His travels in Europe had a significant impact on his work and sparked a lasting interest in historical materials and techniques. Borrero founded his own atelier in early 2003 and has been teaching art students for the past 16 years. He has been awarded several individual artist grants, among them the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant from Montreal, Canada and the Constance Saltonstall Foundation Grant from Ithaca, New York. In 2007, he exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Puerto Rico and at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in 2016. The artist was awarded Best in Show in the Salmagundi Club's Exhibit at the Denise Bibro Gallery in Chelsea, New York. His work is represented in collections in Puerto Rico and the United States.
