Origins is a series of digitally created surrealist portraits of black women celebrating their origins in Africa. Depicted as queens who are so deeply intertwined with their place of birth that they have literal roots and leaves sprouting from their crowns, these moving and affecting portraits are meant to highlight the connection that still exists for women of color despite their diaspora and the series of adversities they have faced since. That they are forever tied to something deeply powerful, colorful and unique, and that no matter how far they travel, these roots still exist and are a source of both beauty and strength. We hope these images inspire a journey of discovery that results in a deeper love of self. To understand the fruit, you must know the root.
