Storytelling is a key thread in all of the creative practices Maria Fenton, a multi-disciplinary entrepreneur and artist, embraces. Ms. Fenton is also creative director of House of EmmaEffa, an independent funk couture fashion house. Her work has been admired by celebrities and art collectors. Fashion design and bespoke artistry goes back multiple generations and is dated back to the early 1800’s in the British West Indies. Founding House of EmmaEffa has enabled her to incorporate the training her grandmother (a career seamstress with a global imprint) personally instilled in her.
She has kept her hand on the pulse of the fine art continuum in multiple roles. As a gallery owner and curator, she exhibited upcoming artists like filmmaker, Stacey Muhammad, and well established artists like Preston Sampson and Kofi Kayiga. Self-taught in both and photography, Ms. Fenton began to exhibit in 2015.
