Mikey Imperial

Mikey Imperial is a mixed media fine artist living in Los Angeles, California. His work exists at the crossroads between street art and fine art, where the sensibilities of graffiti and street art are elevated by fine art technique and presentation. His work frequently plays with contrast, bridging the gap between digital and analog, bright and dark, modern and old-school, the streets and the galleries. By blending media, styles, and color palettes, he asks questions about the nature of street art, fine art, and what difference really exists between the two. His art turns the streets into a gallery and a gallery into the streets.

Whether it's a paint marker or a spray can, a brush or a pencil, a photograph or photoshop, there's no tool he doesn't utilize to create his mixed media art. The end result is something new, a blend of gritty and bubbly that's equally at home on a dirty brick wall or a pristine canvas. Light and dark, happy and sad, his art exists on two levels. Which peaks to you says as much about your own psychology as it does about his intentions.

When he's not splattering paint all over everything, he's probably engaged in other artistic pursuits like playing guitar, drumming, graphic design, or video production. Or maybe you'll spot him on Youtube, where he posts videos showing his process and the techniques he uses to create his distinctive style. Then again, you might just find him asleep on your couch. Just like his street art, there's no telling where he's going to pop up next
