Adam Mirani was born in Waterloo, Canada, from a mixed Kurdish – Canadian family. Adam’s story in Iraqi Kurdistan begins with his father, whose relationship with his homeland has been tumultuous to say the least. As a young man, Adam’s father was forced to flee the region in 1975, and find refuge in Iran before ultimately making his way to Canada. The history of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region has been woven into Adam’s life and he has always felt the pull of his father’s land. Just as Adam’s birthplace welcomed his father, Kurdistan received Adam as a child of its own.
Adam has now shifted to doing creative landscape photography in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. He spends much of his available time travelling around the Kurdistan Region’s vast and seemingly unexplored mountainous landscapes. Due to the Kurdistan Region’s brutal history and general inaccessibility, much of its beautiful mountain ranges and stunning nature remains unknown to the rest of the world. Mines from past conflicts, continuous threats of air strikes and political instability stain the Kurdish terrain but have not stopped Adam from uncovering its charm and relating Iraqi Kurdistan’s story from a different perspective.
