Nina Frost

Nina’s watercolour painting employs liberal amounts of pigment and water, exaggerating the naturalistic effects of watercolour. Using strong and minimalistic colour schemes, she boldly arranges her compositions in such a way so as to imbue her paintings with a sense of depth and dynamism, accentuated by loose and expressive brushstrokes. Nina believes that a painting should be impressionistic rather than mimetic. The senses should be teased and inspired naturally rather than become ensnared by details. Her paintings usually depict ordinary landscapes transformed by dramatic lighting, prompting viewers to re-examine seemingly normal subjects in a different light.
