Hello there! My name is Noelle Rousseau. IG: noelle_rousseau_art
I graduated from SCAD – Savannah with a BFA in Illustration.
Most of my artwork pushes the boundaries between Fine Art and Illustration; but hey, a rose is a rose is a rose!
My artwork is full of vibrant colors and high contrast. Materials are always the most important aspects of each of my pieces because I LOVE textures! If I can get away with it, I try to use as many materials as possible. Color is also intentionally utilized in my art because it has the power to alter the viewer’s mood and emotion.
Art has always been a part of my life and I can thank my mother and father for that. My mom started sneaking me into art classes at NCMA when I was too young to attend and my father comes from a generational line of artists.
I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. I’ve traveled far and wide, but Raleigh has magnetically drawn me back every time!
After graduating college, I flew to South America and traveled by land from Guayaquil to Montevideo by bus, boat, and thumb; Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, from Argentina back to Chile and Chile back to Argentina, and finally Uruguay. I calculated all the total travel distance and it was around 9000 miles. I learned so much I couldn’t begin to explain; I have a novice travel blog about my adventures for further reading if interested: Noelle’s Adventures
I came back to NC with intentions of moving to Ecuador three months later, but life had other plans. I picked up a couple jobs; one teaching tipsy adults how to paint and the other doing customer service and graphics work with a printing company.
That all lasted about a year and then I finally pursued my dream of moving to Ecuador. Sold most of my belongings and was off. Definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done; super scary and difficult. It was totally worth it. Lived on the Ecuadorian Coast for one year and generated income from various avenues; painting murals, commissioned paintings, waiting tables, bartending, selling drawings to an NDA website for $2 a pop, transcribing audio files….
I’ve been back in Raleigh for about three years now and I’m employed at my previous printing company job, doing freelance art on the side, and living happily with my boyfriend Josh and our animals Finn, Olive, and Franklin.
