Phil Openshaw is a photographer and visual artist who works within a wide variety of media including digital manipulation, glitch art, audio to visual transformation and generative sound art, coding, calligraphy, electronic music, printing, painting and asemic writing.
Professional photographic work includes a broad practice with themes that include: urban environments, transformation and people and their impact on the environment; the conflicting interests involved in organised urban development versus the existing environments and population change.
Abstract pieces often include the subversion of photography combined with drawn and generated abstract based imagery. An increasing interest in digital and painted abstract works led to an exploration of the visual language of text, propaganda, politics and printed media. This in turn led to current explorations into asemic writing and related work.
