Artist Bio: Christian G. Hernández (b. 1986, Fountain Valley, CA), also known as “Shipwreck”, is a Mexican-American artist known for his emotionally-expressive portrait paintings as well as realistic and vibrant murals. In lieu of a conventional education, he learned classical painting techniques by studying under famed portrait and landscape artists Alex Schaefer, Daniel Raminfard and Cody Erickson. With a passion for making large-scale artworks, Hernández built on his knowledge of traditional techniques by teaching himself modern mural painting methods which he has used to paint award-winning murals in commercial buildings and private homes in cities around the world, such as Long Beach, California; Ibiza, Spain; Tulum, Mexico and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has also undertaken many other successful projects, including a residency at Hive Gallery, a documented 21-day journey of painting plein air across 15 U.S. states, and live painting at festivals worldwide such as Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man and OZORA Festival in Hungary.
In 2019, Hernández moved to Puerto Rico where he has gained notoriety for his large-scale murals and smaller works that seek to inspire the public through the expression of emotion. Currently, he is working on several murals in various locations throughout Puerto Rico and creating unique portraits for private clients. Soon, he will open an art gallery and shop in the San Juan metropolitan area with the hopes of creating an artistic space that allows others to visit and experience his art process in real life.
