I relish in the act of taking an image that otherwise would look fine and altering it using digital and traditional techniques: from glitch art to oil painting. Sometimes these images are my own, other times they are appropriated. I most often work with portraits of people and images of flowers or plants. Working with portraits & plants I find myself creating gender twisted, macabre spiced, occultish prints.
These images often are manipulated unabashedly in sometimes traumatic ways, perhaps a descriptor of my queer experience. Unafraid to alter my photographs, much of my work is self reflective of my experience living as a schizoaffective, non-binary, transgender woman. Through obsessive self-dissection and examination I employ this practice of reckless manipulation in order to capture an intangible something that lies beneath the skin.
