Alice Underwood is a voracious reader of science fiction, a fan of the bossa nova, and an avid scuba diver; Squilla Design Studio takes its name from an ocean creature.

As a ceramic and digital artist, she's drawn to clean lines and organic geometries that allow color to play a leading role. Strongly influenced by midcentury modern design, she aims to create work that’s pleasing to the senses by incorporating a bit of syncopation in its symmetry.

She grew up in central Texas, and studied music and ancient history while earning degrees in mathematics from The University of Texas and Princeton University. After many years in the corporate world, including a sojourn in Zurich, she now splits her time between Austin and NYC. When not diving, Alice and her husband cater to the whims of two capricious cats.
