Artist and Designer from Brighton, UK and Lagos, Portugal.
I love creating paintings and mixed media work. These inspire my textile designs - clothing and silk scarves.
I am a trained textile artist with a degree in Surface Pattern Design.
With my textile work, I am particularly drawn to the discipline and rigours required by repeating patterns. The large-scale fabric prints present a limitless, infinite aspect to my work.
In recent years I have begun to explore a more experimental Fine Art based practice. I am inspired by personal experiences, dreams, and memories; people I meet, the natural world, and the human form as well as favourite films, books and music. Often, photographs and prints are my starting point. Then, I reinvent or recycle the image. This process includes dramatic colour changes, the addition of collage and hand-written elements which create work that’s expressive with my signature bold, bright colour choices applied in line drawings, acrylic, photography, mixed media and ‘found objects.’
My most recent body of work, including portraits, explore the unconscious workings of the mind as I focus on a person’s esoteric and ephemeral qualities rather than their physical features. I like the work to emerge and unfold rather than approach the canvas with a definite preconceived end. This method results in a raw, dream-like interpretation of my original subject with images appearing as the subconscious of the subject and artist are revealed combining as one upon the canvas.
