I’m John Ray, an illustrator and art director based in sunny Manila, Philippines. I am 29 years old, thinks too much and I have a cat named Mayo.
I love illustrating black and white, mostly line based artworks characterized by flora, fauna, Filipino culture and abstract form. I use my experience in art and design to create intricate and compelling stories through image and type.
I’m a graphic designer at TeamManila, a multi-disciplinary graphic design studio that creates brand identities, strategize communications and collaborates with various creative entities. We strive to elevate the Filipino and the Philippines through art and creativity.
I’ve created graphic design, brand identities and advertising for clients such as Bridgestone Tires, Bank of the Philippine Islands, SM Supermalls, the Australian Embassy, Jollibee, Beach Hut, Fox Network, OLX, Monchet y Compania, San Mig Coffee, Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP, Chemrez Technologies, Inc., PhilEquity, Widemoat Analytics, JJCA Videography and Happy Valley Dairy.
I am from Baguio City, born in the year 1988 to the proud parents of Villamor and Ellen Bumanglag. My town is rich in the indigenous culture of the north mixed with the fast-paced modern world. I grew up with a keen interest in pop culture, animation, comics, science fiction, detective stories and time-travel.
